Adam Sandler Responds to IHOP Incident That Went Viral

Adam Sandler has responded to a recent incident in which he and his daughter were turned away from IHOP by an unknowing hostess.

Last month Dayanna Rodas posted a video to TikTok showing the moment she told Sandler, who was wearing a face mask, that he would have to wait for at least half an hour before being seated. In the footage, Sandler and his daughter then turn away and walk out.

The “Waterboy” star made light of the situation Monday on Twitter.

“For the record, I only left the IHOP because the nice woman told me the all-you-can-eat deal didn’t apply to the milkshakes,” he quipped.

In her initial TikTok post, Rodas explained that she turned Sandler away because she did not recognize him when he arrived at the IHOP in Manhasset, Long Island.

“Pleaseee come back,” Rodas captioned the video. “Not realizing its Adam Sandler and telling him its a 30min wait and him ofc leaving bc hes not going to wait 30mins for IHOP.”

It was not long before Rodas’ video caused a sensation and soon media outlets across the country were reporting on it. In another TikTok video, the IHOP hostess admitted she did not expect her video to go viral. Rodas then spoke about the incident with Inside Edition.

“That just proves the point that you never know who might come into IHOP!” she said.

Later, Rodas explained in another TikTok post why she was unable to recognize Sandler.

“It’s because he had a big beard, and I’ve never seen Adam Sandler with a beard,” she said. “And the mask didn’t help.”

Sandler meanwhile, joked about his beard at the recent Film Independent Spirit Awards, when presenting the award for Best Female Lead.

“Hello, I’m Adam Sandler, the face of the Independent Spirit Awards,” the comedian said, according to IndieWire. “If you’re wondering why I have an extremely hip beard now, it wasn’t intentional. Last year after I won Best Male Lead for my incomparable ‘Uncut Gems’ performance, this beard just appeared on my face,” he continued.

“Was it magic, or was it the independent spirits that did it. Yes, my wife and kids haven’t looked at me without cringing in over 12 months, but Lars von Trier gave me a bag of CBD coffee for my birthday and Bon Iver does transcendental yoga with me every morning, so it’s all good, independently speaking of course.”
