“Jeopardy!” has revealed a list of guest hosts who will be filling Alex Trebek’s role following his tragic death last year. Veteran journalist Katie Couric, “60 Minutes” correspondent Bill Whitaker, NFL great Aaron Rodgers, and actress Mayim Bialik will all be leading the game show in upcoming weeks. More names will soon be added to the roster, according to a statement.
As part of the celebrity guest hosts’ appearances, a donation will be made to a charity of their choice.
“Alex was a legend, revered by all of us,” said “Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards. “I want to thank our guest hosts, who will not only help all of us celebrate his great legacy, but also bring their own touch to the show.”
The announcement comes a day after Rodgers prematurely revealed Tuesday on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he would be guest-hosting “Jeopardy!” At a media briefing later that day, the Green Bay Packers quarterback apologized to the game show producers for jumping the gun.
“I just got so excited on the show earlier,” Rodgers told reporters, according to The Washington Post. “It just went down the last couple of days, us figuring it out. It’s for the offseason — we’ll be even more excited when that opportunity gets a little closer.”
Last year “Jeopardy!” announced that it would be welcoming several celebrity guests to host the show until a permanent replacement is found for Trebek, who died on Nov. 8 at age 80 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Ken Jennings, the all-time champion, served as the first guest host and made his debut on Monday.
