Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., formally submitted a referral to Attorney General Pam Bondi requesting a Department of Justice investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell for potential perjury and making false statements to federal officials.
The letter to Bondi for criminal referral dated Saturday cites Powell’s sworn testimony before the Senate Banking Committee on June 25, when he denied the inclusion of luxury features — such as a VIP dining room, premium marble, water features, and a roof terrace garden — in the $2.5 billion renovation of the Federal Reserve’s Eccles Building. Official project documents submitted to the National Capital Planning Commission directly contradict his statements, Luna’s release alleged.
The renovation budget for the building ballooned by $600 million.
